ABOUT UROLOGY
Urologists are the surgeons who treat the diseases of Genitourinary tract that may require surgical intervention during their treatment. Nephrologists are the physicians who treat the medical conditions of kidney.
The urinary tract is the organ-system that creates, stores and removes
urine from the body.
This includes:
- Kidneys, the organs that filter waste and water out of the blood to produce urine. They also produce certain hormones to maintain blood, calcium metabolism and blood pressure.
- Ureters, the tubes through which urine flows from the kidneys to the bladder.
- Urinary Bladder, the hollow sac that stores urine and pushes urine out through the urethra.
- Urethra, the tube through which urine travels from the bladder out of the body.
- Adrenal glands, the glands located on top of each kidney that release certain hormones necessary for fluid and electrolyte balance.

Urologists also treat male reproductive system.
This system is made up of the:
- Penis, which is the copulatory organ that releases urine and carries sperms out of the body.
- Prostate, which is the gland underneath the bladder around the urethra that adds fluid to sperm to produce semen.
- Testicles, which are the two oval organs inside the scrotum that produce the hormone testosterone as well as sperms.
